This course examines the evolution of “Canadian popular culture.” It focuses on the social and cultural dimensions of Canadian popular cultural production and dissemination, offering glimpses into music, film and television, literature, sport and more. Referencing the ways that institutions and selected artists identify and express a Canadian cultural imagination, it explores critical issues, controversies, and debates in media and popular culture, and engages with both theoretical and applied approaches to the understanding of what gets labelled as “Canadian.”
