March 4-8, 2024, is Sustainable Development Goals week in Canada and to mark this special focus on SDGs, LCI Education has signed the SDG Accord.
In a significant move towards sustainability, LCI Education, Dr. Jason Dewling, LCI Education’s Chief Learning Officer, has signed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Accord on behalf of the organization. This transformative decision underscores LCI Education’s dedication to aligning to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) and his unwavering commitment to positive change through education.
The SDG Accord represents more than just a symbolic gesture; it symbolizes a tangible commitment by educational institutions worldwide to actively contribute to achieving the SDGs. With 361 institutions from 85 countries participating, this global partnership highlights the pivotal role education plays in addressing the world's most pressing challenges. The purpose of the SDG accord is to Inspire, Celebrate and Advance the critical role that education has in delivering the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the value the interlinked objectives bring to governments, businesses and wider society.
"LCI Education has been a firm supporter of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal’s for several years. Signing the SDG Accord is simply formalizing our commitment in a public way. The UNSDG's have been widely embraced by our organization and each new course throughout our global network is being mapped against these goals,” states Dewling.
Under the guidance of several global and local leaders, LCI Education has accepted sustainability as a core value, deeply ingrained in its culture and operations.
"Local campuses have embraced all the nuances of these goals which resulted in staff and students coming together to make hundreds of changes to positively impact our local and global environment," Dewling explains.
One such environmental initiative is LCI Education’s commitment to purchase carbon offsets for its student’s travel and Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) for colleagues who travel with Air Canada.
LCI Education is positioned as a trailblazer in sustainable development education. By integrating the SDGs into its curriculum, operations, and organizational culture, LCI Education empowers its community to drive positive change locally and globally.
The SDG Accord is more than a commitment; it is a call to action. LCI Education invites fellow institutions, students, and stakeholders to join us in advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals by creating a more sustainable future for all. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on the world.
