Michael Foster is a musician, music producer and engineer. In the 1990s Michael started out as a musician in successful Vancouver bands Naked Lunch, Chrome Dog, and Crankshaft where he had an opportunity to tour extensively throughout Canada and the US.
Crankshaft received Canada-wide radio play, had a music video in regular rotation on Much Music, and had music featured in Todd McFarlane’s Spawn: In the Demon’s Hand video game. Crankshaft played the Lollapalooza music festival in 1995, and opened for acts like Corrosion of Conformity, Beck, Sonic Youth, Hole, Mike Watts, and The Roots. More recently, Michael has played with Vancouver singer/songwriters Rodney DeCroo and Mathieu Lavigne and also plays bass guitar as a studio musician.
Michael is currently a director of Blackfish Sound Inc. and through this company has had the opportunity to produce, mix, and record numerous records and demos.
Michael’s recordings are sonically rich and warm. He has succeeded in bringing these qualities from the world of analog recording into the digital realm and this has translated into a successful recording career.
Since 2003 Michael has been teaching recording arts at The Art Institute of Vancouver and takes great pride in the accomplishments of the many students that have passed through his classes. Classes taught include Digital Audio Production using Pro Tools hardware and software, Audio Recording, Advanced Recording Techniques, and Digital Music Technology where the subject is MIDI and sequencing within Logic software.
